If you want to make your holiday or vacation more interesting then the best way to start is learning from locals.

The reality is that visitors and travelers hunger for more diversity and extraordinary experiences, that go beyond the usual tourism sites. When you get a tour from a person who has lived in a location all their lives, not alone are you getting the usual information facts and figures but you’re also getting the stories, the stories of the community, the stories that are handed down from age to age.

The Walsh McGreevy family have a long history in the area, indeed the McGreevy families once ruled Lough Key in the kingdom of Maigh Loirg aka Moylurg in north Co. Roscommon and lived on Castle Island, until it was later taken over in a battle of the clans by the McDermott family.

Ardcarne Cemetery (erected circa 1930) states that na Mag Riabhaigh were “kings of Moylurg . . . until 1255”.

Mac Riabhaigh (MacGrievy, McGrievy, MacGreevy, McGreevy, Magreevy, Magreavy) which see; the name of a family who was anciently chiefs of Moylurg, in Co. Roscommon.

These and more stories will be available to you from your tour guide, making your experience very special indeed.
