The next annual Pink Tour in Aid of Breast Cancer Awareness
Lough Key goes pink on Sunday 11th from 2pm until 5pm, to raise awareness and raise badly needed funds for Cancer Research.
Bernadette Walsh of Lough Key Boats started the fundraising last year as part of the Discover Boyle day and also many tea parties! This year the Lough Key Activity Centre is also involved.
2pm - Pink Tree Walk
3pm - Pink Boat Tour
4pm - Pink Tea party!
Rowing boats will also be available for hire weather permitting. Normal fees will apply on each activity and all the money to go to Cancer research.
Commenting on the day Louise Fitzpatrick, General Manager, On behalf of the staff of Lough Key Forest & Activity Park we are delighted to be working with Bernadette Walsh and Lough Key Boats to so show our support for such a fantastic society, the Irish Cancer Society.
This being the second year of the Pink Day in Lough Key, we will continue the good work already done last year by so many to help continue to raise the awareness of Breast Cancer.
This year we are delighted to be able to work with Bernadette Walsh in extending the activities of the Pink Day to include our unique ‘Tree Canopy Walk’. We are looking forward to turning this into the Pink Tree Walk for the day and ending the day with the Pink Tea Party’.
We look forward to making this an important date in everyone’s calendar year on year to help in continuing to make a positive difference for Breast Cancer Awareness and the Irish Cancer Society.’
Bernadette Walsh will never forget the moment her doctor told her she had breast cancer.
“My whole body went numb, and it wasn’t until I got home that it really hit me what was about to happen to me.”
Bernadette fought a hard nearly two year battle with the disease that included a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and severe radiation. Today, she is cancer-free and counts herself lucky to be a breast cancer survivor.
“Cancer is not a death sentence,” she said. “Early detection is vital, and there are great developments in medicine that are helping improve the lives of many people with the disease.”
Bernadette says “she hopes to shine as a symbol of hope for all of those affected by breast cancer by organising this event every year.
We want to do our part to help fight breast cancer and raise awareness of this often tragic disease afflicting women, you are all invited to join us we hope to see you in Lough Key Forest Park Sunday 11th @ 2pm…”

Our Daughter Catriona celebrated her love for her partner Oliver this year on Trinity Island in Lough key 4th June 2010.
For those of you who love Lough Key and know our family you'll appreciate how special this was to all of us the boat tour wasn't ready so friends and family helped ferry out the family in speed boats thank you all for your help.

The family business is located at the Harbour of Lough Key Forest Park, which is surrounded, by 800 acres of picturesque woodlands and park.
The lake itself has to be one of the most beautiful in all of Europe.
It has mature natural wooded islands dotted all around and its hinterland is made up of woods and forests.
These are home to a wildlife population and they welcome a variety of summer and winter visitors of the feathered kind - a veritable bird sanctuary.
